Our Founder, Mike McDevitt
We're proud to share some news from our corner of Newtown Square. Acting Without Boundaries (AWB) has named North East Fitness founder Mike McDevitt the honoree of its 11th Annual Hero Award.
The Hero Award recognizes a community leader with a physical disability who creates opportunities, changes perceptions, and proves the future is full of possibilities for every person. If you've trained with Mike, that description will sound familiar.
Why Mike
Mike has spent his entire career in the corner of athletes with disabilities. He competed internationally and won a silver medal in shot put at the 1988 Paralympics. He has coached for Team USA. And for more than 35 years, he has been helping people of all abilities get stronger — first as an athlete and coach, then as the founder of North East Fitness.
That's the same approach our members get every day in Newtown Square: real coaching, adapted to the person in front of him, with the expectation that you're capable of more than you think.

AWB was founded in 2004 to empower people of all ages with disabilities through the performing arts. It's a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and every dollar raised supports programming that is 100% free for participants and their families. Proceeds from the Hero Award Gala go directly to those tuition-free programs.
